About the Artists

David Milne

David Milne (1882-1953) was a Canadian artist known for his innovative style and unique approach to capturing landscapes. He was born on January 8, 1882, in the small town of Burgoyne, Ontario. He was associated with the Group of Seven but stood out with his quieter and more intimate scenes. Milne's works showcased his ability to convey emotion and atmosphere through simplified forms, flattened perspectives, and a focus on colour and light. His art can be found in major galleries worldwide, and his legacy continues to inspire contemporary artists.

Isabella Valancy Crawford

Isabella Valancy Crawford (1850-1887) was a Canadian poet known for her unique style, blending romanticism, realism, and mythology. She immigrated from Ireland to Paisley, Ontario, at 11 years old. Her vivid descriptions and musical poetry captured the essence of nature and the struggles of the human spirit. Despite a short career, Crawford's contributions to Canadian literature endure, inspiring generations with her evocative imagery and exploration of the Canadian identity.
